Theorist research

Levi-strauss

i)He attempted to identify universal structures of the mind as reflected in myths, cultural symbols, and social organization. levi- strauss derived structralism from a school of lingistics whose focus was not on the meaning of the word, but the patterens that the words form. levi- strauss's contribution gave us a theory of how the mind works.

ii)Structuralism considers that in the passage from natural to cultural, man obeys by laws he does not invent. Levi-Strauss viewed man not as a privileged inhabitant of the universe, but as a passing species which will leave only a few faint traces of its passage when it becomes extinct. Levi-Strauss also came up with the theory of binary oppisites which is :' a pair of oppisities, though by the struturlists to powerfully form and organize human thoought and culture. some are commonscence. However, many such oppsitions imply or are used in such a way that privileges one of the terms of the opposition, creating a hierarchy. jthis can be seen in english with white and black, where black is used as a sign of darkness, danger, evil, badness, and white as purtiy, goodness and freedom. another example is rational vs emotional, in which the rational termis usally priviledge and associated with men while emotional is inferior and associated with women. deconstruction sometimes involves identifying the oppositions working in a text and then demonstrating how the text itself undermines the hierarchy implied or asserted by the opposition.

This relates to our documentary as we, we will be structuring in the format of a balanced argument, with regards to the topic area that we have chosen.
